UA Day 2025 Highlights the Critical Role of Universal Acceptance in Digital Accessibility
Islamabad, Pakistan – On March 26, 2025, Path Finder Solutions (Private) Limited, in collaboration with Internet Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT), the National Incubation Center (NIC), UNESCO, and the Internet Society Pakistan Islamabad Chapter, successfully hosted UA Day 2025: Connecting the Dots – UA and Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities at the National Incubation Center (NIC), Islamabad. The event brought together government officials, industry experts, disability advocates, and academia to discuss how Universal Acceptance (UA) can improve digital accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Universal Acceptance refers to the technical readiness of digital systems to support all domain names and email addresses, regardless of language, script, or length. While this may sound like a purely technical concern, the reality is that non-compliant systems create significant barriers for persons with disabilities.
For many of us, signing up for an email account or accessing a website is a simple process. But for millions of blind and visually impaired individuals, persons with mobility impairments, and those using assistive technologies like screen readers, voice recognition software, or braille displays, digital barriers remain a frustrating and exclusionary reality.
Dr. Muhammad Shabbir, the Chief Executive Officer of Path Finder Solutions (Private) Limited said that, “Technology should empower, not exclude. Digital accessibility is not charity—it is a right. Universal Acceptance is the foundation of an inclusive internet, but unless it supports all users, including persons with disabilities, it remains incomplete.”
The event emphasized that UA ensures all domain names and email addresses—regardless of language, script, or length—are universally accepted and processed across internet-enabled applications and services. This is essential for persons with disabilities, particularly those using assistive technologies, to ensure their seamless access to digital platforms.
